Tempo, tap tempo and metronome

The tempo key opens the tempo screen from anywhere; tap it to set the tempo by ear. E1 sets BPM, E2 and E3 the groove, E4 the metronome level (click to switch the metronome on or off).

Tempo and groove are saved with each project, so every project keeps its own speed and feel. The groove settings on E2 and E3 are explained under grooves.

    TE’s guide
  • Over MIDI, CC80 on any channel sets the tempo; on OS 1.1.33 the result is twice the value in BPM, held within 40–220, so only even tempos can be sent.

  • A new empty project on the owner's unit ran at 120 BPM.

  • A new project starts with the metronome on, at about two thirds of its volume (the project file stores the click volume, with 0 for off).

  • The tempo page has a light background, the BPM as a large number on the left and a metronome in the middle carrying the groove type's two-letter abbreviation.

  • The metronome's weight slides down its arm as the tempo rises, from the top at 40 BPM to the bottom at 220.

  • The speaker icon at the top right loses its sound waves as E4 turns the metronome down.

  • While the sequencer plays, the pendulum swings from one end to the other on every beat, and the beat's dot below it lights; stopped, it rests at the left end with no dot lit.

    checked on a unit · 1.1.33
  • The swinging pendulum looks smeared, as if it left trails; the copies come from the screen's slow response rather than being drawn.
