Filter (M3)
is the track's filter: cutoff, resonance, filter-envelope amount and key tracking. picks one of four types — ladder, svf, z hipass or z lowpass — and then returns to .
The filter is a track's main tone control. Lower the cutoff to darken a sound, add resonance for a sharper edge, and raise envelope amount so the filter envelope sweeps the cutoff on every note — the classic plucky bass. The shift layer of this page holds the track's sends, not filter settings.

Cutoff slides the curve's slope along the axis, key tracking moves an arrow along the bottom from left to right, and any envelope amount above 0 adds a hatched ghost of the curve to its right; z hipass mirrors the drawing.

Ladder and svf are 24 dB lowpasses modelled on analog circuits: the ladder four stages with feedback, the bass thinning as resonance rises; the svf two state-variable stages with a soft knee at resonance 0. z lowpass and z hipass are single two-pole digital filters, very gentle at resonance 0; the z lowpass rises to a whistling, nearly self-oscillating peak while the z hipass only reaches a mild one.

Cutoff spans from about 25 Hz to past 20 kHz; at the same setting the z hipass sits an octave below the z lowpass, and the svf a little above the ladder.

On the svf, raising resonance also lowers the peak by up to about half an octave and takes away up to 9 dB of level.

Key tracking pivots on C2: at 0 the cutoff ignores the note, at the middle it follows half an octave per octave, at the top an octave per octave.

At the envelope's peak, envelope amount opens the cutoff by about 0.85 of its own steps on the cutoff's scale, so a full amount from a closed filter opens it almost all the way.
